Organization

Biomedical and Genome Science Initiative (BGSi) is Indonesia's first national integrated biomedical initiative established to leap Indonesia into the era of precision medicine by integrating genomics capacity into health services. Launched by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, HE. Ir. Budi Gunadi Sadikin, CHFC, CLU, on August 14th, 2022, BGSi's headquarters are housed in the historical Eijkman building located within the grounds of RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo complex in Jakarta.

Mission

With a mission to support the Indonesian Ministry of Health's ambitious transformation agenda in biomedical innovation and public health, BGSi aims to support the use of genomics information as an integral part of its health services in order to improve diagnosis, treatment, and medication for diseases of significance in Indonesia.


Six National public hospitals have been appointed as the six inaugural Hubs that focus on six disease types of national interest including Cancer, Infectious Diseases, Brain & Neurodegenerative Diseases, Metabolic Diseases, Genetic Disorders, also Aging, Nutrition, and Wellness.

    Improving the control of infectious diseases, with a first focus on tuberculosis, both through improved surveillance and pathogen-based precision medicine
